De opbouw van behandeling hangt af van de aandoening en van de persoon.
Een behandeling fasciatherapie kan bestaan uit manuele fasciale technieken, een oefentherapie/ bewegingseducatie, sensoriële introspectie en indien gewenst, een therapeutisch gesprek.
Indien de klacht zuiver lichamelijk is volstaat een doelgerichte manuele behandeling en een ondersteunende oefentherapie.
Bij meer complexe klachten zoals stressgebonden aandoeningen, aspecifieke klachten, nieuwe aandoeningen zoals fibromyalgie en CVS, of meer psychische aandoeningen zoals burn-out en depressie wordt de lichamelijke aanpak ondersteund en aangevuld met een psychogene benadering.
Deze originele benadering onderscheidt zich duidelijk van andere visies en methodes.
Via aangepaste instructies wordt de patiënt zich bewust van wat er zich afspeelt in zijn lichaam; hij ervaart en ontdekt nieuwe bewegingspatronen, vergroot zijn bewegingsmogelijkheden, neemt spanningsveranderingen en andere nuttige fysiologische reacties waar.
De bewustwording van deze fenomenen brengt de persoon in een salutogene gemoedstoestand. Ook van deze vitaliserende toestand kan hij zich bewust zijn en kan hij informatie putten voor de verdere aanpak van zijn probleem. Dit opnieuw op zowel lichamelijk als geestelijk niveau. De juiste pedagogische ondersteuning en begeleiding is daarbij noodzakelijk.
Het doel hierbij is dat de patiënt zijn aandoening zelf in handen kan nemen door zichzelf, zijn reacties, zijn beweging en gedrag waar te nemen om zo tot een verandering te komen (link naar somato-psychopedagogie). Daarbij bekleedt de fasciatherapeut zowel een therapeutische, een begeleidende als een pedagogische functie.
