Wat is somato-psychopedagogie?

Somato-psychopedagogie is eenvoudigweg een praktijk die zich specifiek richt op de interacties tussen lichaam en geest.

De term somato-psychopedagogie kan dan wel ingewikkeld klinken, maar is in werkelijkheid eenvoudig begrijpbaar:

Somato betekent lichamelijk, want deze originele aanpak leert om het lichaam fijner waar te nemen en te ervaren;
Somato-psycho geeft aan dat deze methode het verband tussen lichaam en psyché bestudeert, en dit in twee richtingen. Enerzijds nodigt ze uit onze blik te verruimen met informatie die komt van het lichaam en van de omgeving; anderzijds leert ze effecten van gedachten en psychisch functioneren op het lichaam, te herkennen en er rekening mee te houden;
Somato-psycho pedagogie geeft tenslotte aan dat het om een pedagogie gaat, wat wil zeggen dat het een methode is die uitnodigt om te leren, die overdraagbaar is ¹ en onmiddellijk toepasbaar is in de uitdagingen van het dagdagelijkse en professionele leven.

In de somato-psycho pedagogie (SPP) vertrekken we steeds vanuit het lichaam en de effecten die daarin voelbaar zijn. Het gaat hierbij om een pedagogische benadering, niet om psychologische of therapeutische hulpverlening. We zijn geen psychologen, psychotherapeuten, psychoanalytici of kinesitherapeuten.

Een opleiding in SPP kan echter wel een waardevolle aanvulling en verruiming betekenen voor professionals uit deze domeinen. De inzichten en technieken uit de SPP kunnen hun bestaande praktijk verdiepen en ondersteunen.

Somato-psycho pedagogen werken dan ook vaak in multidisciplinaire teams, waar zij een specifieke meerwaarde bieden in de begeleiding van cliënten.
